Virginia City and Camping weekend #2

This last weekend starting Thursday had been busy busy.  My MTC comp/ BYU roomie came up to visit with her husband.  They did all the fun stuff that we haven't even attempted yet, even though we have lived here 4 years.  They toured the Lewis and Clark Caverns, went Sapphire mining, and we did the walking tour of down town Bozeman.  Then, we met up with them on Saturday at Virginia City, and old-timey town where Montana's heritage has been preserved.  But first we stopped in Ennis, which is on the way.  It's a small town and the cafe had really good fries. :)

Then we met up with Gen and Matt at Virginia City.
We got there a little late, so some of the shops were closed, but we still had a nice time moseying down the street together.
 This was the hanging beam.

Cousins' candy store.
 Wood planks for side walks.

In the summer, they do live theater that is part folly part vaudeville.
Above, Sophie strutting her 4th of July church attire and below, Gunner's version of 'cheese'.
Gen and Matt had been camping each night and we met up with them and the Stovalls Sunday night at Spanish Creek.
A couple of shots of the land on our way.

Lots and lots of Buffalo.  These belong to Ted Turner.  This campsite is in the Lee Metcaff Wilderness area, but we have to drive through his amazing property to get to it.  Chris says that Turner's goal is to own land all in a row from Canada to Mexico, so he could ride a horse the entire distance all on his land.  He sure can pick some beautiful land.

The camp chairs and the camp.  This camp was about 150 yards away from the rest of the sites, and right next to a river.  We loved it, but hauling the stuff from the car took a bit.

The river was moving and high but still relatively clear.

And as we left we saw this moose.  Gen and Matt left this morning, but last night we had a fun 4th of July party with lots of friends and LOTS of fireworks.  Perfect night and weather for it.  And in Montana, anything goes with fireworks so we had them going off for hours all around us.

We loved Virginia City and the Lewis and Clark Caverns when we went years ago. Sounds like a fun visit!
