Chris had a successful hunt on Thursday and got a cow (female elk)!!! We love elk meat, and we love filling up our freezer.
Chris went along, and packed her out alone. It took him most of the day to do it, and he learned a lot of do's and don'ts. Like take his pack with him and bring a knife sharpener.I hope to go before the season ends:)
Chris and Dave G. got some steaks carved out for us, and after a few minutes of trying to grind the rest up our selves, we decided to let someone else process it.
Sophie has been over the top excited to go trick or treating. So, after telling her all day we had to wait till dad got home from work, the time finally came. Here she is in all her bumble bee glory. The shirt panels ripped apart as I tried to put them on her--which I fully expected to happen. But, you couldn't really tell with the black shirt on underneath. I think she grew in the last 25 days because I could barely get the shirt on her...

Borrowed this costume for Gunner boy and he looked adorable in it. When we finally got to the trunk or treat location, he sat with Sis. Stone and almost fell asleep.

Why you ask? Well, this activity turns everyone and their mom out. So the food line was over an hour long. It was held in a barn, which they do every year, but it is too small and no where to eat. Plus, they had a DJ with music and it was way too loud, and once they turned it on after the prayer, she wouldn't go back in. Sooo, we went home and missed out on trunk or treat. Which we were kind of happy about. Next year I think we will just show up late and do the trick or treating only.
Anyway, here is my costume-hot air balloon.
Chris was my hot air:)

Sophie is going to be a hunting girl tonight for trick or treat around town because it will be colder.
They both enjoy nuggets tremendously.

Gunner is growing every day before our eyes. He is tearing around the house and standing up all the time. He will be walking very soon.

What would life be without nuggets! And of course Sophie had a growth spurt after you finished the costume, when else do kids grow but when you make something for them to wear:) We love little Gunner as a puppy.
Good hunting Chris, Aaron is counting down to his first hunt and Bella is really peeved that she can't go.
I used to be a pro at cooking deer - elk was the sirloin of game around our parts - no one we knew ever got one though.
Takes me back!
